Back in 2007, I made a name for myself in the Seattle multifamily floor business. I'm a Texan raised on old-school values passed down by my late father, John Kenneth Baff. As it turned out, those ancient values were a massive hit in the Northwest business world. I'm a man obsessed with doing what's right—ask around, people will tell you.So, I decided to monetize my single best asset: my character.I set out to do what was right in flooring—not what was easy, and definitely not what everyone else was doing. With the help of the killer teams I built, we changed multifamily flooring in that market forever, exclusively for the customer's benefit. It was a beautiful thing, guys. You should have seen it.
Then Seattle changed on me, and it was time to move on. In 2020, I sold my half of the company and went into mini-retirement to figure out what was next.What came next was pain.Over the following couple of years, I lost seven of my closest loved ones, one right after another. Navigating that kind of loss and heartache forces you to look for the biggest lesson life is trying to teach you.Mine was this: what we do while we are here leaves the greatest impact on those who remain.I spent the next couple years licking my wounds, studying everything I could get my hands on, playing a ton of video games... and building a plan.
